An Introduction to BOTOX®
If you're between the ages of 18 and 65 and doing all you can

but ordinary people - teachers, mothers, and business people from
all walks of life. Your Refine professional can help you decide

What is BOTOX® and How Does It Work?
BOTOX® belongs to the botulinum toxins class of drugs (hence the
name "botox"). Primarily, BOTOX® reduces muscle contractions
through one of its agents. This agent produces a protein that
blocks the release of acetylcholine and, therefore, relaxes muscles.
Many people worldwide have effectively used BOTOX® to treat conditions
caused by overactive muscles.
As we age, the lines caused by facial expressions progress to
become wrinkles. Aside from giving away our age, these wrinkles
can often create the appearance of worry, stress or anger where
there is none. Often, it is for these reasons that individuals
seek BOTOX® treatment. BOTOX® is especially effective for reducing
muscle-generated wrinkles, such as the frown lines above the nose
or the crow's-feet around the eyes.
BOTOX® is not a filler like collagen. BOTOX® works by paralyzing
the muscles into which it is injected. Once injected, these muscles
can no longer create the facial expressions that crease the skin
and over time form wrinkles. With just a few small injections
of BOTOX®, the muscle contractions which cause skin to crease greatly
reduce.
BOTOX® treatments are very appealing due to the fact that they
are relatively inexpensive, produce effective results and are
non-invasive/non-surgical.

How Long Does a BOTOX® Treatment Take?
A typical BOTOX® visit should take approximately ten minutes.
This is not a surgical or invasive type of procedure. It only
requires an office visit. After treatment, you should be able
to carry on with your daily activities.

How Is Treatment Performed Exactly?
The skin over the injection site is cleaned with an antiseptic.
It is important that you do not have any wounds in this area or
BOTOX® cannot be injected. Once the injection site is cleaned,
the BOTOX® is injected into the selected muscles of the face. A
very small needle is used to inject tiny amounts at several points
within the muscle(s). Our Refine Medical Spa professionals carefully
choose which muscles to treat with BOTOX®, in order to weaken only
the wrinkle-producing muscles so facial animation and expression
is preserved.

Are There Any Side Effects?
The most common side effects reported by patients include: headache,
respiratory infection, flu symptoms, temporary drooping of the
eyelid and occasionally, nausea.

Is BOTOX® Right For Me?
BOTOX® isn't for everybody, as not all facial wrinkles will benefit
from the injections. Your skin type, skin thickness and degree
of wrinkling are all important factors in determining whether
BOTOX® will be effective for you or not. Our professionals at Refine
Medical Spa will be able to determine whether you are a good candidate
for BOTOX® treatment. Our professionals will plan a history and
physical exam of the face to determine whether you qualify for
BOTOX® treatments. If, after discussing your treatment options
in detail, we feel that you can expect reasonable improvement
from BOTOX® treatments, treatment can be scheduled.

When Will I See the Effects of My BOTOX® Injection?
After receiving treatment, you should see a noticeable difference
within just a few days.

Is The Effect Of BOTOX® Permanent?
Once the BOTOX® has taken effect, it will take three to six months
for the affected muscles to begin functioning again. Ideally,
patients should be reinjected with BOTOX® before the muscles recover
fully. This way, faded wrinkles do not have a chance to be reform.
